Meet
Dr. Javier Esteban Varela
Dr. Varela has over 20 years of surgical experience. After graduating from medical school with Honors, he completed a residency in General Surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago and fellowship training at University of California Irvine in advanced minimally invasive, bariatric, hernia, and robotic surgery. Dr. Varela has recently earned an international Diplomate in Hernia Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction.
About
Dr. Varela has held faculty positions at esteemed medical institutions nationwide, most recently at the University of Central Florida. With prior research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the VA system, he has garnered significant recognition from national surgical societies, including the "Golden Scope" Award from the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the NIH & NIDDK Award for Clinical Scientists, the VA New Investigator Award, and the Best Laparoendoscopic Resident Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgery. Presently, he leads the Hernia and the Weight Loss & Transformation Centers in Orlando, FL.
